Overview of the Area

San Carlos is called "The City of Good Living". It's a great spot!

San Carlos's main drag is Laurel Street and this is where you can find cute restaurants, a grocery store and lots of coffee places. It's a 5 minute drive from the house or a 1.5 mile walk. If you use maps on your phone - type in 777 laurel street and that will put you right in the middle. Park and enjoy walking around, exploring the shops and restaurants.

San Francisco is about 30 minutes north, without traffic. We're a reverse commute to the city. This means that going into the city in the morning / early afternoon is not bad traffic-wise. Coming back in the evening also not bad traffic-wise. But, going up to the city during rush hour in the afternoon/early evening, be prepared for lots of traffic. It's not awful - but it'll take about an hour (vs. 30 mins).

Luckily, Sunset Cottage is located only ~10 minutes from multiple freeways and so you have a lot of options when driving from the house. We recommend using a traffic app with your phone - we like Waze. Waze will automatically route you around any traffic issues, such as accidents or construction and plot the fastest course to get you where you want to go.

Suggestions if you Arrive Early

If you arrive early and we're not able to have you checkin early - the good news is there's plenty to do. Check out the “Things To Do” section for good recommendations on lunch / brunch places. Laurel Street (the downtown area of San Carlos) is full of neat little shops and coffee places. Take a walk around town and check them out. You can start at San Carlos Avenue and Laurel Street and walk south. Swing by Bianchini's (the local grocery store) to pick up a few staples.
